A právě tam vzniká i Kelly Pochette.
A on navíc přišel v turbulentní době s Pochette.
Gaultier zmenšil ikonickou siluetu do elegantní clutch kabelky do ruky s plochým dnem a drobným horním madlem.
Neokázalá, trochu nečekaná a o to zajímavější. A především: je skutečně cool.

Not every Kelly needs to be the center of attention. Some are more intriguing precisely because they remain one step removed. The Kelly Pochette is a small, almost whispered Hermès artifact from a moment when the traditional world of the iconic fashion house collided with Margiela, Gaultier, and a new idea of what luxury could mean.

Somewhere in between, the Kelly Pochette first saw the light of day in 2004 – at the very end of Jean-Louis Dumas’s tenure as CEO and in the first months of Jean-Paul Gaultier’s tenure as creative director at Hermès. Jean-Louis Dumas led Hermès from 1978 to 2006. Under his stewardship, the house expanded into new categories – watches, footwear, jewellery, porcelain and crystal – while embarking on an ambitious international expansion. In 1997, Dumas brought Martin Margiela in to lead Hermès’ women’s ready-to-wear, where he remained until 2003. He was succeeded by fashion’s enfant terrible, Jean-Paul Gaultier, who stayed until 2010. At the turn of the millennium and in the first years of the new century, Hermès was experimenting enough to entrust its creative direction to designers who were not only highly distinctive, but radically different from one another. And it is precisely there that the Kelly Pochette emerges. Gaultier introduced the bag in his debut Autumn-Winter 2004 collection for the house.
His aesthetic was built on disrupting established categories. He placed masculine and feminine elements side by side in apparent contrast, put lingerie on display as outerwear, mixed fetish with uniformity, and provocation with craftsmanship. Taking the creative helm of a traditional French house was already a natural source of friction. And he arrived, in a turbulent moment, with the Pochette – a bag that is, and at the same time is not, a Kelly.
The house had already spent decades refining the proportions of the iconic Kelly. The bag itself was born in the 1930s under the name Sac à Dépêches. It was not until 1956, when a photograph of Grace Kelly shielding her pregnant belly from photographers with the bag gave it the name by which we know it today. Miniature versions of the Kelly had already existed since the second half of the 20th century. But the Pochette is something slightly different from today’s Mini Kelly. Gaultier scaled the iconic silhouette down into an elegant handheld clutch with a flat base and a small top handle. The Pochette retained the signature architecture of the Kelly, but its proportions stripped it of its original utilitarian authority. Like the classic Kelly, it features the flap and turn-lock closure. It is also wider than the Mini Kelly, giving it that little bit of extra space. It is the ideal evening bag – fitting just enough of what you might need.
Its status today is almost the opposite of the kind of luxury it represents. Its recognizability lies in a handful of details known only to those who know. It is as though it took the very best of the classic Kelly and stripped away everything that might be considered superfluous. If the classic Kelly is an archetype and the Mini Kelly a contemporary phenomenon, then the Pochette is for those in the know. Understated, slightly unexpected, and all the more intriguing for it. And above all: it is genuinely cool.
